This Year’s Cultural Gala was nothing short of remarkable. The Gala, was celebrated under the theme; “Embracing pre-pandemic cultural diversity and innovation,” and it took place on 07th May 2022. The colourful event brought together a wide range of participants from eight (8) countries including; Tanzania, South Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, Congo, Burundi, Liberia and Somalia.
Cavendish University Uganda annually holds a Cultural Gala to provide a diverse learning and knowledge exchange platform, where students can proudly showcase the best attributes of their respective cultural backgrounds.
The competition kicked off on a high note with scintillating folklore and had several activities which comprised of dance, traditional songs, and cultural shows, attracting ululations from a myriad of spectators eager to learn the original foundations of the different cultures.
Uganda topped the competitions based on their organised presentations and exceptional performance in a number of categories, followed by Tanzania and South Sudan. Participants were judged based on their creativity, originality and presentation in the categories of; Traditional wear, drama, song, dance, staple foods and National anthems.

Special accolades went out to Burundi for winning the traditional dance, Liberia for excelling in the drama, South Sudan for emerging best in the traditional wear and Somalia for having the tastiest food.
The occasion was also graced with prominent Guests in attendance including; the Education attaché at the Somalian Embassy – Mr. Liban Derow; who was the day’s Guest of Honour, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Mugisha, the Ag. Dean of Students, Mr. Medard Nabaasa, while Judges of the day included; Dr. Olutayo Osunsan, and Ms. Elizabeth Namakula, who are both lecturers at Cavendish University Uganda.
The University attracted MCI Radio, a students’ radio station as partners of the event, who broadcasted an interactive cultural segment on their social media handles and radio that educated their listeners and fans on positive cultural values aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence and reintegration among communities.
The huge crowd that had turned up for the event were entertained by exciting interludes of song and dance punctuated with the speeches. The merrymaking continued long into the evening with culture bonding in joyous diversity.
